Christian Varley is a local hero that truly went the distance - and then some - to raise money for the Manx Solidarity Fund.
After witnessing the devastating impact the pandemic was having in the Isle of Man, the Manxman decided to do something to try and make a difference. A keen athlete, he challenged himself to run 19 marathons in 19 days.
Christian smashed the challenge out of the park – running 26.2 miles each day and a grand total of 497.8 miles in just under three weeks. Not only this, he raised more than £100,000 for the Manx Solidarity Fund in the process! The charity was set up in response to COVID-19 to support residents and local organisations facing difficulties as a result of the pandemic. Christian’s fundraising efforts went a long way in helping the charity to help others in need.
The whole of the Isle of Man got behind him and spirits were lifted as a result of his incredible efforts. He put his body under an immense amount of pain and pressure to help others and is no doubt a true ‘Extraordinary Islander’.
